Sample Requirements

Sample Identification

Maintaining sample identity is critical in the donor testing process. We accomplish sample identification throughout our process with the use of customer assigned Codabar bar labels. We will convert to ISBT labeling April 2008. Our system is capable of scanning both Codabar and ISBT labels during periods for customer currently using ISBT labels or who convert before MKBC.

Criteria for Sample

Acceptability Upon receipt of samples, blood specimens and shipping documents are inspected for compliance with sample requirements. MKBC complies with the sample condition requirements specified by the testing reagent manufacturers. Customers are notified immediately if sample integrity may have been compromised.

A sample confirmation receipt is faxed to each customer daily to confirm the samples received.

Sample Tracking, Storage and Retrieval System

A daily report is sent to customers to indicate pending test results such as repeat EIA test results, discriminatory test results, and confirmatory results.
