Transforming the Way We Save Lives
2012-13 Annual Appeal
A wise person once said that the only constant is change. The one thing we can count on in the future, not only in blood banking industry, but in every aspect of our lives, is constant technological change.
Technological change is continually reshaping our business. Computers and technology are dramatically changing the way healthcare is delivered, including the recruitment, collection, testing and distribution
of life-saving blood products.
For more than 40 years, Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) has delivered the safe, reliable blood products that our community needs. Today we are privileged to serve as the only supplier of blood products to 25 hospitals in 12 Pennsylvania and New Jersey counties, and we are recognized as one
of the nation’s best-regarded, highly experienced blood centers. Our ongoing history of compliance
with FDA and AABB requirements, combined with our ISO9001 certification, demonstrates our commitment to quality and service excellence.
As the sole blood provider to our regional hospitals, we must continuously inspire individuals to donate blood in order for us to meet the increasing transfusion needs of a growing population. Technological changes continually impact the way we communicate with our donors, collect and test more than 185,000 blood components annually, and distribute these life-saving blood products to our community hospitals.
This is an enormous challenge! Our community expects a safe, continuous and adequate blood supply and MKBC is
committed to meeting these high expectations. The Federal Government mandates and expects that blood centers implement new technology and donor-related blood equipment as they become available. Out-of-
date technology must be replaced on a relatively
continual basis. This new equipment ensures the
safety of the blood supply in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Funds generated through our 2012-13
Annual Appeal Campaign
will be used to underwrite
the purchase of several items critically needed by
MKBC to support our community’s only blood program.
