2013-14 Annual Appeal
Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) makes a difference in people’s lives by inspiring thousands within our community to take action and ultimately, save lives. Our professional employees are dedicated to delivering first-class customer service, making a lasting impression on the lives of our donors, hospitals and testing clients, and as a result, Miller-Keystone continues to sustain its commitment to the
communities and hospitals we serve.
MKBC is privileged to serve as the only supplier of blood products to 27 hospitals in 12 Pennsylvania and New Jersey counties, and our ongoing history of compliance with FDA
(Food and Drug Administration) and AABB (American Association
of Blood Banks) requirements, combined with our ISO9001 certification, demonstrates our commitment to quality and service excellence.
Our community expects a safe and continuous blood supply and MKBC is committed to meeting these high expectations. We are committed to educating the community about the need for a steady stream of committed blood donors. Through our “My Blood, Your Blood” educational program, we educate tomorrow’s donors about their body, blood and the circulatory system, and the need for a safe, adequate blood supply. This program is designed for use in elementary school, middle school, high school, or other community-based organizations, such as Girl/Boy Scouts or youth education programs, and is presented at no cost to schools and community youth groups in the region served by MKBC.
Testing and Donor Collections Technology
The Federal Government mandates and expects that blood centers implement new laboratory testing technology and donor-related blood equipment as they become available. Out-of-date technology must be replaced by new equipment on a relatively
continual basis to ensure the safety of the blood supply in the most cost-effective manner possible. These changes impact the way we communicate with our donors, collect and test more than 150,000 blood
components annually, and distribute these life-saving blood products to our
Bloodmobile Drive Equipment
More than half of the blood products we supply to area hospitals come from mobile blood drives held throughout our region. The most vital equipment needs on these drives are donor beds, storage cabinets and privacy screens; since they are used the most, they must be replaced the most often. Equipment is constantly being replaced on a rolling basis as pieces are deemed defunct. Replacement trends indicate that it is most efficient for us to purchase mobile drive equipment in packages that can be distributed evenly to our various transport vehicles. By bundling the equipment, we are better able to track equipment age and deterioration rate.
As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Miller-Keystone Blood Center relies on the generosity
of community businesses and individuals to help us achieve our goals and remain true to our mission statement. For more than 40 years, we have delivered the safe, reliable blood products that our community needs.
Funds generated through our 2013-14
Annual Appeal Campaign
will be used to underwrite
the purchase of several items critically needed by
MKBC to support our community’s only blood program.
Your financial support is vital in helping us achieve
our mission to save lives.
We sincerely hope you will consider making a contribution to our 2013-14 Annual Appeal
Campaign. Maybe you can’t give blood, but you really want to help out. Maybe you can give blood, but you want to do more for your community’s only blood resource. Either way, a financial contribution to the Blood Center is a great way to help your community. Whether you’re one of our long-time supporters or a new friend, we are grateful for your support. Your commitment makes our lifesaving mission possible. No gift is too small, and every gift counts!
