What Is the "My Blood, Your Blood" Program?Funded by foundations and corporations, "My Blood, Your Blood" is an educational program designed to inform young people about their body, blood and the circulatory system, and the need for a safe, adequate blood supply.
Who Does the Program Target?"My Blood, Your Blood" is designed for use in elementary school, middle school, high school, or other community-based organization, such as girl scouts or youth education programs. Who Presents the Program? What Does the Program Entail?The Blood Center has volunteer presenters trained for the "My Blood, Your Blood" program, and is currently looking for retired teachers to join our group of volunteers. The program includes a 30-minute video, and a workbook with a variety of hands-on activities. If requested, a tour of our operations can also be arranged. Is There a Charge for Presenting the Program?There is no charge for presenting the "My Blood, Your Blood" program. The Blood Center can either work with your organization in presenting the program, or your organization may obtain the materials for your own use, at no charge. Who Developed the Program?"My Blood, Your Blood" is a program created a team of scientists, physicians and educators, in conjunction with America's Blood Centers (ABC), a network of over 200 community blood centers that supplies one-half of the nation's blood supply. Miller-Keystone Blood Center is a member of ABC. Why Was the Program Created?Our objective is to offer the "My Blood, Your Blood" program to schools and other organizations, and then encourage the organizations and eligible donors to organize as donor groups to conduct either yearly or twice-yearly blood drives. Our hope is that adults who model as donors will inspire out students to become blood donors when they are 17 years of age and enrolled in a participating high school or other blood donor group. What Has the Response Been to the Program? How Many Schools Have Utilized It?The more schools learn about the "My Blood, Your Blood" program, the more presentation requests we receive! Since 2005, Miller-Keystone Blood Center has presented the "My Blood, Your Blood" program free-of-charge to more than 50 elementary, middle and high school students in the region. Several school districts are considering placing the program into their school curriculum, while Notre Dame High School (Easton, PA) has already committed the program to both its bio The Blood Center is currently looking for retired teachers to assist with presenting this program to schools in the region.
